Cells were exposed to amifostine for 24 h and cellular proteins were analysed by Western blotting at 24, 48, 72 h after the beginning of exposure to amifostine. Amifostine induced the expression of p53 protein in p53-proficient cells and the expression of p21 protein in p53-proficient and -deficient cells.
